Bollywood saw the rise of the Superstars when the culture emerged in the late 70’s to the beginning of the 80’s with the success-driven and blockbuster films that the era became synonymous with. Here’s a detail of such stars who dominated the Hindi film industry.

The End of an Era?

The golden era in Bollywood between 1940 and 1960 saw the rise of Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar, to name a few.

Rajesh Khanna charmed audiences with his looks and romantic films, earning the title of Bollywood’s first superstar. He romanced every top heroine of those times. Who will ead after Khans

Amitabh Bachchan emerged as the Angry Young Man that suited his powerful screen presence and he went on to take over the superstar tag.

Can New Stars Fill the Gap

Akshay Kumar is also considered as one of the superstars of Bollywood among others.

Then the rise of the Khans between the years 1980 to 1990 saw. The Khan Era dominated the film industry for several years.

Shah Rukh Khan became a superstar with his romantic roles in films like Deewana, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Yes Boss and is often referred to as King Khan or King of Bollywood.

Their films even had the fan loyalty, which let them control the industry creatively with their films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak had QSQT and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as DDLJ, the abbreviations were good enough, which became very popular among the masses as their names alone could fetch a packed theatre and success stories at the Box Office collection.

But soon this Box office dominance alone might not have the theatres packed as the superstars might not stay on for a long time as the upcoming actors are gaining their prominence on OTT with content related films.

Will it be another end of an era? Will these superstars have successors like the veteran actors? The reasons could be many that the digital world has diminished the aura, and we are seeing the trend of decline of the superstar culture due to the easy accessibility of the stars than it was ever before.
