Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar :The Revenge has achieved an what seemed to be an impossible task to reach a mark up of Rs. 1000 crore net in the domestic box office. Earlier Bollywood films have crossed over 1000 crore mark but it’s a combination of help of overseas collection. But the Ranveer Singh starrer, Dhurandhar 2 has broken all previous records and entered the elite club that only Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2 had so far and in just two weeks earned the 1000 crore net.

From the Golden Era 1943 to 2026
Kismet 1941 – 1 Crore
Kismet in 1943 directed by Gyan Mukherjee, Ashok Kumar starrer introduced the concept of Antiheroes to Indian cinema. The bold film for its first time featured an unwed pregnant woman but despite the taboo in the film it was a grand commercial success and went on to become the first Indian film to gross over 1 crore and the first block buster in Indian cinema.
Mughal-e-Azam 1960 – 10 Crore
K Asif’s magnum opus took a decade in the making and ended up to become the most expensive Indian film of its time. It broke all records that year with Mother India’s record to become the highest grossing Indian film. The film started Dilip Kumar, Prithviraj Kapoor and Madhubala and it was the first Indian film to have reached the 10 crore in India alone.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun in 1994 – 72 Crore
It took over three decades for the Indian cinema to reach the 72 crore from the 10 crore in 1960. Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama reached a new ground with Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit starring; it earned 72 crore in India and set a new record overseas, grossing at Rs. 128 crore worldwide. One of the biggest record-breaking box office numbers in the Indian Cinema.
Ghajini – 2008 – 100 Crore
Aamir Khan gave the first Indian films a box office figure of 100 crore club with his film Ghajini surpassing the previous box office records. The A R Murugadoss film is a remake of his own Tamil film that had earned the Rs. 113 crore in India and had established a Rs. 100 crore benchmark for big hits and global collection had crossed 194 crore.
3 Idiots in 2009 – 200 Crore
Barely a year later, Aamir Khan broke a new record with his film with Rajkumar Hiran’s first collaboration. The 3 Idiots established at 200 crore club with a massive hit. Aamir Khan found a new found fame in China where it grossed the Rs. 400 crore world wide and set a new record for Indian cinema once again.
PK in 2014 – 300 Crore
Aamir Khan’s golden run continued, highlighted by the success of his film PK. The film was first in Hindi to have past the 300 crore in domestic net earnings and ended it run at 336 crore net domestically. A record that stood until Dangal in 2016 at 387 crore.

Pathaan in 2023 – 400 crore and 500 crore
Pathaan was the first film that crossed the 500 crore mark. For a decade after PK’s release across Pan India which was the highest grosser, Baahubali 2, KGF Chapter 2 and RRR all of which earned more than 500 crore in India but Pathaan was the first Bollywood film to have crossed the 400 crore. When Shah Rukh Khan had returned after a 5-year hiatus with Pathaan, the film earned Rs. 543 crore net in India and 1049 crore worldwide which had set a new milestone for Bollywood.
Jawaan in 2023 – 600 crore
Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t just done with Pathaan. Seven months after his comeback he again had raised the bar higher with Atlee’s Jawan. His film Pathaan did extremely well at Rs. 400 to 500 crore but I was Jawaan that earned 600 crore in India and ended at 643 crore net in India and 1140 crore worldwide.

Dhurandhar -2025 – 700 and 800 crore
Dhurandhar series set the new benchmark in Bollywood box office. Even the films like Stree 2 and Chhaava had crossed the 600-crore mark but neither could surpass Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan but it was Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar had the longest run in the most recent times, going past 700 crore and 800 crore. It ended with the 840-crore net in India creating a new benchmark at the Bollywood’s box office.
Dhurandhar 2 in 2026 – 900 to 1000 crore
Dhurandhar’s record that hardly touched the third month before its sequel went past it with a considerable ease. Dhurandhar : The Revenge arrived with a bang to challenge the Pan India blockbuster with a whooping 1000 crore net earnings as of April 5th 2026. The third highest of any Indian film which beat the likes of KGF Chapter 2, RRR and Baahubali to have touched the 1000 crore within a few weeks and is still doing the theatrical run and will soon reach a higher box office figure
