Amidst the heated debate of nepotism that has been stirred in Bollywood, there are stars who struggled and made a niche for themselves. It might be a common sight to see a star kid enter Bollywood and sometimes be as successful as their parent/s, but it’s rare to see an outsider, who was not even connected to the film industry in any way to make it big and rule the roost of the industry. Here are some of the names that shook up Bollywood with their talent, hard work and passion for movies!

Boman Irani

Prior to becoming an incredible actor, Boman Irani was working as a housekeeping staff at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. He also made some extra cash by running his family bakery business.

Shah Rukh Khan

A well-educated and well-read Shah Rukh came to Mumbai from Delhi with stars in his eyes and a hunger to be the best actor Bollywood has ever seen. After many rejections, the Badshah of Bollywood is an undisputed star!

Arshad Warsi

This incredibly talented actor got his first break with ABCL’s Tere Mere Sapne. But his entry into Bollywood wasn’t easy. He was working as a door-to-door salesman and even tried his hand at photography after the demise of his dad. This ‘Circuit’ of Bollywood is a true story of grit and passion.

Mithun Chakraborty

A former member of the Naxalite group in Bengal, Mithun was living a hand-to-mouth existence. Things took a turn for the worse when his brother died in a car accident. That’s when he put his foot down and left the Naxal group to pursue acting. The rest, of course, is history.

Rajnikanth

Coming from a poor family, Rajnikanth had to take every job that came his way. Being the only earning member of his large family, he did everything from a coolie’s job to being a bus conductor. It was his interest and consistent not giving up in acting that made him what he is today.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Coming from a family of 8 siblings wasn’t easy. The farmer’s son had to struggle his way to earn his living. He did a lot of odd jobs like being a society watchman to working at a pharmacy. It was only when he joined the National School of Drama that the Paan Singh Tomar actor made a name for himself as an actor.
