Gulshan Kumar, the founder of T-Series Music Company and film producer of the ’90s biggest love story Aashiqui. This movie ruled Bollywood through the 80s and 90s, until his brutal 1997 murder by the D-Gangster Mumbai underworld. Decades later, his son, Bhushan Kumar, now heads T-Series, advancing film production. Bhushan Kumar has delivered massive hits including Ready, Aashiqui 2, baby, Airlift, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, 102 Not Out, and Salman Khan’s recent blockbuster, Bharat.

Gulshan Kumar’s Early Life

Gulshan Kumar, a religious man, started each day by visiting Jeeteshwar Mahadev Mandir near his Andheri West home. During the 90s Mumbai gang war peak, he received extortion calls on 5th August and 8th August, 1997, but refused to pay.

After extortion calls, Gulshan Kumar visited Jeeteshwar Mahadev Mandir with a bodyguard. On 12th August, 1997, hid bodyguard fell ill and didn’t accompany him, proving fatal. After darshan, two hired killers indiscriminately fired at Kumar. He sought shelter in nearby huts, but frightened residents shut their doors. Kumar’s driver, Rooplal Suraj, was shot in both legs trying to rescue him. The shooters pumped 16 bullets into Kumar, confirming his death before leaving.

Bystanders informed the police. The police rushed Kumar to CopperHospital,l but doctors declared him dead on arrival. An insider reported that Abu Saleem, a Dawood Ibrahim gang aide, demanded Rs 10 crore in protection money, but Kumar refused.

Incidentally, during the police investigation, besides D-Gang, the police also accused music composer Nadeem Saifi (of the music duo Nadeem-Shravan) of paying money to contract killers to shoot Gulshan Kumar due to some dispute between him and Nadeem. When Nadeem’s name appeared in the media, Nadeem fled the country. Later, Mumbai Police nabbed the killer, Abdul Rauf, alias Daud Merchant, who was sentenced to life.

Bhushan Kumar is working on a biopic on his father, Gulshan Kumar. The film is called Mogul and is to be directed by Eeshwar Nivas, and will probably Aamir Khan may play Gulshan Kumar!
