The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) has organized an online film poster design based on the iconic films by filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The selected 75 posters will be chosen by the jury. The jury, including Shyam Benegal, Anjolie Ela Menon, Dhimat Vyas, and Radha Binod, evaluated the posters now exhibited at the 53rd IFFI Festival in Goa from 20 to 28th November, 2022.
NFDC received an overwhelming 635 applications. A souvenir showcased the top three winners from 75 selected posters. The jury faced a tough task, but this initiative effectively celebrates Satyajit Ray’s work.
Satyajit Ray’s Elegant Posters
Satyajit Ray designed multiple posters per film, each capturing its mood. For instance, ‘Devi’ showed a split personality, and ‘Charulata’ featured a woman’s face in brushstrokes. Entrants put considerable work into his contest honoring the filmmaker.
Shyam Benegal Expresses Gratitude
Filmmaker Shyam Benegal stated the contest honored Satyajit Ray’s legacy, encompassing both his films and his graphic design choices for their posters. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting expressed his congratulatory message to the three winners whose posters were selected. He said the posters were very methodical with their imagination for the One & Only Ray Contest.
The 53rd IFFI aims to offer a new experience to global movie lovers. NFDC India’s Managing Director, Ravinder Bhakar, stated the contest fostered art, visual communication, illustration, and graphic design professions.
