Major Saab was the first movie in which Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan worked together. This was the fourth collaboration between Tinu Anand and Amitabh after hits like Kaliya, Shahenshah, and Main Azad Hoon. As per the reports, there was a fight between Amitabh Bachchan and Tinu Anand during the shoot. The fight began between when Tinu rejected Amitabh’s demand for an extra take due to limited time. Amitabh argued, asserting his role as producer. Tinu retorted, suggesting Amitabh direct the movie if he was producer, then walked out.

Major Saab did good business at the box office , and its profits repaid ABCL’s (Amitabh Bachchan’s Production House) debt. This movie was originally planned as Amitabh Bachchan’s comeback, but due to schedule issues and various other reasons, Mrityudaata became his comeback movie.
