With his passionate voice, He steered the evolution of music post-World War II. Hemant Kumar was known for interpreting Rabindranath Tagore’s Rabindro Sangeet. He sang in more than 150 Bengali films and in over 50 Hindi films. He wrote an estimate of 2000 songs.

He is the recipient of two Screen Awards and was nominated for six Filmfare Awards. KK began his career singing jingles for advertisements and made his debut in 1996 with the song from Maachis. He sang the song ‘Tadap Tadap Ke’ in the 1999 film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which earned him his first Filmfare Award for the Best Male Playback singer nomination. He sang for films, Dil Chahta Hai, Saathiya, and Dola Re Dola from Devdas in 2002.

Sonu Nigam, a playback singer, music director and dubbing artist, is known as one of the most versatile singers. He has the widest vocal range in the history of Indian music. He has sung songs varied from romantic to break-up, classical, devotional, party songs with foot-tapping numbers, ghazals, patriotic songs, to qawwalis, rock and pop songs to his credit. Many consider Sonu one of the most successful singers in Indian cinema history. He holds the title ‘Modern Rafi.’ He ranked among the top artists on the Billboard Uncharted charts twice in 2013. The government awarded him the Padma Shri in 2022.
Alka Yagnik began her career in 1979. Eminent music directors like Kalyanji, Anandji were impressed with her beautiful voice. She established herself as a singer when it was not easy, with many other top singers ruling the scene. Her biggest break was with the film Tezaab in 1988 when she sang ‘Ek Do Teen Chaar’ for Madhuri Dixit, which remains an all-time favourite. Thereafter, her voice is the sound of many younger generation heroines to date. Besides Hindi, she has also sung songs in Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Punjabi. Shankar Mahadevan, known for his non-filmy album Breathless, topped the Indian music charts in 1988. An Indi-pop star who created a fusion of Carnatic, Hindustani with Jazz. He is also a music composer with the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who wrote music for Indian films.Birmingham City University awarded Shankar Mahadevan an honorary doctorate. He is well known for his music and his compositions for the films Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), My Name Is Khan(2010), and Dil Chahta Hai(2001).
Shreya Ghoshal, noted for her wide range of vocal range and versatility, is one of the most prolific and influential singers we have today in India. They often refer to her as the ‘Queen of Dynamics’ for her vocal expressions. Many regard Shreya as one of the greatest singers of the Indian subcontinent, who has recorded songs in Indian and foreign languages. She has won five National Film Awards, four Kerala State Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, one Maharashtra State Award, seven Filmfare Awards and ten Filmfare Awards from South.
Sukhwinder Singh primarily sang Bollywood songs and gained his popularity with his song, ‘Jai Ho’ from the film Slumdog Millionaire. He won the Grammy Award for Best Song for the film. Sukhwinder has also received two Filmfare Awards for his playback singing. He got famous after the song ’ Chaiyya Chaiyya’ for Shah Rukh Khan in the film Dil Se in a duet with Sapna Awasthi.
