Romantic,
bold and intimate scenes are common in Hindi films and it is one of the
characteristics for a love story. It is
not just now but romantic scenes have been very common since the advent of
silent cinema. Hindi films are known for
the intimate scenes by the leading star couple on screen and due to these hot
scenes the producers, director also believed the film runs.
Director Mahesh Bhatt was filming Prem Dharm with Dimple Kapadia and Vinod Khanna. In the scene, Vinod had to hug Dimple, his on-screen wife, and peck a kiss on her cheeks. To capture intimacy, Mahesh Bhatt kept the crew minimal. Only essential crew members, like the cameraman and light men, were present. This allowed Vinod and Dimple to perform without feeling shy or embarrassed.
During filming, Vinod Khanna suddenly embraced Dimple Kapadia and started kissing her cheeks. Dimple was furious. Mahesh Bhatt called “cut,” but Vinod wouldn’t stop, embarrassing everyone, especially Dimple. Mahesh Bhatt had to intervene, calling his assistant to pull Vinod away and let Dimple go.
Dimple Kapadia refused to do more love scenes with Vinod Khanna due to his earlier behavior. Mahesh Bhatt intervened, convincing Vinod to apologize. Vinod apologized and admitted his shame, asking for forgiveness. After this, Dimple agreed to complete the film, and the scenes were shot.
The 1992 film Prem Dharam was inspired by Guru Rajneesh Ashram. Initially titled “Maarg,” it starred Dimple Kapadia and Vinod Khanna alongside Hema Malini and Anupam Kher. Despite its promising cast, the film bombed at the box office. Few critics praised it, but overall, it received negative reviews.
