Today we talk about yet another film by Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary superstar who has been one of the top superstars of our country, and each of his films stands out to create a history in the film industry. One such film is Desh Premee, directed by Manmohan Desai, with a screenplay and story written by Kader Khan, K.B. Pathak, and Prayag Raj. Starring in the film are Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi, Shammi Kapoor, Premnath and Navin Nischol.
The story is about Master Dinanath, who is an ex-freedom fighter. When Dinanath arrests smuggler Thakur Pratap Singh, to avenge the insult, he kidnaps Master Dinanath’s wife and young daughter Priti and also gets the public turned against him. To avoid the wrath of the public, Dinanath escapes with his young son, Raju. He is made to believe that his wife and daughter are dead. In the meantime his wife Bharati contracts leprosy and she too escapes the clutches of the smuggler Thakur Pratap Singh and leaves her young daughter, Priti, with her friend.

A Tale of Two Brothers: Amitabh Bachchan’s Dual Role
Dinanath and his son settle in Bharati Nagar, a village ruled by four underworld dons from different communities. Dinanath convinces them to live in harmony and helps them resolve their differences. The dons, involved in illegal activities, allow Dinanath to stay to cover up their own wrongdoings.
Raju starts working for smuggler Thakur Pratap Singh, unaware of his dark past. Thakur had kidnapped Raju’s mother and sister 15 years ago, tearing his family apart. When Raju discovers the truth, he takes on Thakur’s crime empire to rescue his loved ones.

The Quest for Justice and Freedom
The Amitabh Bachchan craze was at its peak during this film and therefore hugely appreciated. The songs were popular too. Amitabh Bachchan and Mammoot Desai’s collaboration made this film entertaining. It celebrated its golden jubilee in Hyderabad and was a success in 1982.
