A comedy of errors is what one can call this film. Though Dharmendra and Sharmila were in the lead roles, Amitabh Bachchan stands out as Sukumar Sinha, a professor of English and friend to Professor Parimal Tripathi (Dharmendra). Parimal, fond of pranks, falls in love with his student Sulekha (Sharmila Tagore) and marries her.
To impress his wife, Parimal decides to play a prank and poses as a new driver at his brother-in-law’s house. Meanwhile, Sulekha is in awe of her brother-in-law. Parimal and Sulekha play pranks on the brother-in-law (Om Prakash), who suspects closeness between them.
In a parallel plot, Sukumar Sinha falls in love with Vasudha (Jaya Bhaduri) but poses as Sulekha’s husband to avoid confrontation with her brother-in-law. The film unfolds with confusion and drama due to Parimal’s pranks, ultimately ending on a happy note when the couples reveal the truth and the pranks come to an end.
The film is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, produced by N.C. Sippy, starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bhaduri, Om Prakash, Asrani, Usha Kiran, and David. The Songs from this film were popular and were by S.D. Burman; the lyricist was Anand Bakshi, which was simply amazing. The song, ‘Ab Ke Sajan Saawan Mein,’ was one of the most popular songs.
The bungalow in which the Chupke Chupke was shot, was actually . N.C. Sippy’s bungalow. Later Amitabh Bachchan had bought it from him, and its’s now called Jalsa, where the The actor stays with his family in Juhu.
