In the golden age of Bollywood, when the romance was with subtle glances, heroes and heroines had woven a magic with expression in the world of glitz and glamour, which had kept the audiences delighted with just their on-screen portrayal of love. The evolving film industry had its own twists and turns in its love stories through its emotions.

The Golden Era’s love stories possessed timeless charm and enchanting chemistry. Legendary actors not only mesmerised audiences but also fueled real-life romance. On magnificent sets, heroines were swept away, and whirlwind romances resonated with every heartbeat.

The audience was spellbound by the chemistry of the stars when the screen sizzled just by their romance on screen.

The cinematic lens not only captured their romance on screen, but their love blossomed far beyond just the love narratives on screen. It was on the sets that they met and fell in love. It was simple, unlike today, the current era where social media has woven its magic onto the Bollywood romance.

Love now flourishes between video calls, WhatsApp chats or just sparks the flames of romance amidst the virtual dates.

Bollywood romance has remained an enigmatic emotion that thrives on the timeless charm with its spellbound tales.

As the film dialogue goes, ‘Pyaar Kiya Nahi Jata Ho Jata Hai’

Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha

Their love story remains one of Bollywood’s most talked-about, yet mysterious, controversies. Both actors, too dignified for public display, never spoke much of it, though others were certain of their affair. Their “Silsila” made headlines in every film magazine during their prime.

Anju Mahendru reportedly supported his rising stardom, even entertaining his film producers at his bungalow, Ashirwad.

However, he became very possessive and interfered in her career, creating a fiction. Her closeness to cricketer Gary Sobers and actor Sanjeev Kumar fueled tension between Anju Mahendru and Rajesh Khanna. They were the ultimate couple, known for their talent and her beauty. A combination of a golden couple who were madly in love. Their romance had begun during the filming of ‘Taraana’ in 1951, which was very evident in their subsequent films. Madhubala’s family—especially her father—disapproved of her relationship, even though she and her partner were deeply in love and believed to be engaged; legal disputes during the making of Naya Daur drove them apart, and Madhubala tragically died at a very young age.
