Today we talk about one more film starring Amitabh Bachchan that was considered a super hit film, a thriller starring along with him are Reekha Gulzar and Amjad Khan. This film was based on the Bengali version titled Anusandhan, and in Bengali it was one of the highest-grossing films, while the Hindi version also did pretty well.
The film that means ‘One Rainy Night’ is remembered for its classic songs. The plot of the film is about a police inspector, Abhijit, who initially doesn’t reveal his true identity, books the smuggler and the local goon Kaaliram, and gets him arrested for all his wrongdoings. In the meantime, Abhijit falls in love with a blind girl, Rajni, essayed by Rakhee, and he marries her. They live a happily married life in the small village of Sonarpur and both await the arrival of their first child, but their happiness is short-lived.
Kaaliram is released from the jail, and his only motive is to take revenge on Abhijit, essayed by Amitabh Bachchan. Kaaliram makes a fake phone call to lure Abhijit away from home. He then enters Abhijit’s home to molest his blind wife, Rajni. The attack leaves Rajni pregnant and she suffers a miscarriage. Abhijit, hiding his true identity as a police inspector, erupts in anger and reveals himself. He drags Kaaliram to jail. The corrupt police officer who had helped Kaali escape or get released from the jail is suspended.
The film is emotionally powerful with beautiful songs. It tells a tragic story of a blind woman who loses her child in a molestation incident, shattering their dreams. The film ends on a happy note that justice prevails.
