The idea became successful, and a crowd of around 50,000 came to see Amitabh.

Unfortunately, the movie did badly at the box office. Main Azad Hoon became one of the lowest-grossing movies by Amitabh Bachchan in the 90s. Kaifi Azmi, renowned poet and Shabana Azmi’s father, penned the movie’s sole song, “Itne Bazu Itne Sir”. And Amitabh Bachchan sang it. Javed Akhtar won a Filmfare Award for Best Dialogues for Main Azad Hoon.
