Directed by Prakash Mehra, produced by Satyendra Pal. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, and Smita Patil. Released on the 30th of April, 1982. It is an action comedy film Namak Halaal, a super hit at the box office.
Namak Halaal, a masala film, went on to become the third highest-grossing film of the year 1982. Anjaan wrote the lyrics for this comedy blockbuster, which was later remade in Telugu and Tamil.
Savitri (Waheeda Rehman) is Bhim Singh’s wife, who works as a manager & personal bodyguard to Seth Raja Singh (Kamal Kapoor). He appoints Savitri as a trustee to his property & guardian to his son Raja Kumar (Shashi Kapoor). Everyone, including her father-in-law, thinks that she has killed her husband for the sake of the wealth. She gives her own son Arjun (Amitabh Bachchan) to Dashrath Singh (Om Prakash) to bring him up, as she promises her husband that she would look after Raja Kumar through all problems.
Arjun grows up and works as a bellboy at a five-star restaurant that belongs to Raja Kumar. He meets Poonam (Smita Patil), who looks after the housekeeping in the same restaurant, and they fall in love with each other. Ranjit wants to kill Raja to take over all his wealth. Arjun discovers Savitri is his mother and learns of Ranjit’s plot to kill Raja Kumar. He vows to protect Raja. Meanwhile, at a planned party, Nisha (Parveen Babi), a dancer hired to kill Raja, gets attracted to him instead.
Some goons are hired to kidnap Raja’s mother, but unfortunately for them, Arjun & Raja Kumar get together to get them caught. The family lives happily in the end.
