Deception Turns to Devotion
Maharaj Singh fights dacoits who invade his farmhouse, killing the leader’s son, Maan Singh. Seeking revenge, Maan Singh abducts Maharaj’s young son Chimpoo, leaving him and his wife Rukmini in anguish.
Years later, a young man named Badal (Amitabh Bachchan) enters their lives, claiming to be their son. The family welcomes Badal, a convicted jailbird, and he falls in love with their daughter Sunita (Saira Banu).. However, he eventually confesses his true identity to Maharaj Singh and Rukmini.
Rukmini, who is ailing and on her deathbed, must not know the truth, as it would break her heart. Maharaj Singh asks Badal to continue pretending to be their son. The question remains: will Maharaj Singh pardon Badal for his deception or punish him? To find out what happens next and the fate of Badal and Sunita’s love story, you’ll have to watch the film.
The film is based
on O. Henry’s short film A Double-Dyed Deceiver, and this script was earlier in
the film of 1960 called Bombai Ka Babu with Dev Anand in the lead role. It is indeed an astonishment
, that in this film Saira Banu has acted as Shammi Kapoor’s daughter, whereas 14
years before the release of this film, she has acted as his love angle and was
seen romancing with Shammi Kapoor in the film Junglee.
Sapan Chakraborty composed the music for Zameer. Sahir Ludhianvi and Rajkavi Inderjeet Singh Tulsi penned the lyrics. Amitabh Bachchan wasn’t the lead in this film, yet it was a super hit. The credits list both Shammi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles.
