Kudos to Aamir Khan for nor only being Mr. Perfectionist in the acting department but the actor deserves a pat on his back for his brilliant sense for meticulous selection of movies that always hits the bull’s eye. After starting the trend of Rs 100 crore with his film Ghajini (2008) Aamir Khan created the new distinction of Rs 500 crore with his super hit film Dhoom 3 (2013).

After Dhoom (2004) and Dhoom 2 (2006) became huge successes,  Yash Raj Films made Dhoom 3(2013). This third installment  starred Aamir Khan in a power-packed dual role.  Vijay Krishna Acharya, directed it.  Dhoom 3 broke all box office, becoming India’s first film to enter the Rs. 500 crore club. The film was released across 4500 screens in India along with 750 screens overseas. The other major highlight of the film was that Dhoom 3 was First Bollywood film to be released simultaneously in South India dubbed in Tamil and Telugu.

Dhoom 3 Marks A World Record

The film set another world record, screening 54 shows on its release day, 20th December, 2013, at Cinepolis in Pune. They released the film in new overseas markets such as Egypt, Peru, Germany, Malaysia and China. Thus, it is no wonder the film collected Rs 4 crore worldwide in just ten days!

Dhoom 3’s Box Office Collections

The movie proved its magic on its release day. It opened to packed houses, with 90% to 100% occupancy in all cinemas. Interestingly, at some multiplexes, the first show began as early as 7.15 a.m. The ticket rates zoomed at some multiplexes from Rs 90 in the morning shows to Rs 900 at night shows. The movie set a new record, collecting a whopping Rs. 40 crore on its first day. It reached the 100 crore mark in just three days in the domestic circuit.

Interestingly, Aamir Khan‘s PK released a year later in 2014 became the second Bollywood film to cross the Rs 500 crore!! PK had a wider release than Dhoom 3. While Dhoom 3 was released in 4500 screens in India, PK was released across 5,200 screens. It was also the fastest to reach the Rs 500-crore marks. What’s more, PK broke Dhoom 3 record as it crossed the Rs 500 Crore and collected Rs 792 crore Worldwide.

Few more movies that had Rs 500 Crore business are Bajrangi BhaijaanSultanBaahubali: The BeginningSanju, Tiger Zinda HaiPadmaavat, etc.
