Bollywood Actors Who Have Been Granted Protection Of Their Personality Rights By Delhi High Court

The most recent news on the Hon’ble Delhi High Court that has passed an order protecting his famous personality and publicity rights of the much-acclaimed actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). While the Court’s intervention followed the petition filed by the South Actor, citing a widespread commercial use on unauthorized platforms across, due to which the Hon’ble High Court granted the protection to his personality rights.

Several other Bollywood actors and celebrities prior to NRT have also been granted protection of their personality rights by the Indian Courts, in particular, the Delhi Hight Court. This is to prevent the unauthorized commercial exploitation through AI generated pictures, voice, news or any misuse of their names and deepfakes.

One of the earliest famous and most recognized personality in the film industry to seek this comprehensive protection against unauthorized use of his name, fame, image and his voice is the legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan.

Followed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, who have actively secured the court’s order to protect their family’s privacy and prevent misuse of their family images especially with a concern for their young daughter Aaradhya. 


Salman Khan had moved the court to protect his physic, his name, his personality and the publicity rights from being misused in unauthorized commercial use.

Hrithik Roshan also has sought protection for his personality against the AI driven misuse in public. In October 2025, the Delhi High Court granted an interim injunction to protect the personality of the actor. It addressed the modern digital threats, especially with the unauthorized use of his likeness through AI-generated content t protect his name, voice, image, and his distinctive traits that could harm his identity.

In September 2023, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor was granted by Justice Pratibha M. Singh an interim injunction by the Delhi High Court with an order to protect his personality rights, which also includes his manner of speaking and his iconic phrase ‘ Jhakaas’ cannot be used by a third party, an unidentified entity, John Does is barred from for any commercial gain without the consent of Anil Kapoor. It also addressed misuse via AI, deepfakes, GIF’s and use of his personality or his mannerisms and phrases for any merchandise.

Filmmaker Karan Johar who successfully obtained a legal protection for his identity through multiple court orders in the year 2024 and 2025 protecting his personality rights. The Key Injunctions obtained was the court had a stay order to the release of the film titled ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’. The court also blatantly upheld the use and attempt to capitalize on Johar’s reputation.

The court had granted interim injunction, restraining various entities from using not only his name, voice but also his acronym ‘ KJo’


Suniel Shetty was granted the interim relief restraining third party from exploiting his image, his voice and his likeness through AI-generated content which is impersonation or misrepresentation and impersonation or to any false endorsement in the actor’s name. The Bombay High Court granted the urgent ex-parte interim relief against the unauthorized usage of his personality in any format, or deepfakes and AI generated content.

Kumar Sanu and Asha Bhosle, the legendary singers have secured legal victory in Indian court to protect their personality rights. Particularly against the use of their voice or similarity and likeness by Artificial Intelligence. This was granted to the two singers in October 2025.

The 90-year-old, legendary singer Asha Bhosle was granted the interim protection , restraining AI platforms or any online marketing from cloning her voice or usage of her voice for any commercial content or exploiting her name, image and vocal style. The court directed had directed the entities like Flipkart, You Tube and Amazon to remove any infringed material including the AI Generated songs to merchandise their product.
Kumar Sanu was also granted a similar interim injunction to Kumar Sanu to protect his voice, image, and his unique style of singing from unauthorized use

On platforms generated or cloned version of his voice on social media through AI. The protection is from infringement and prohibiting the use of AI tools to convert voices that sound like Kumar Sanu without his consent.

Jackie Shroff following the precedent set by Anil Kapoor obtained a similar legal protection and a relief from the Delhi High Court in May 2024. 

He secured the protection for his very famous and popular Marathi slang, ‘Bhidu’ and the phrase, ‘ Bhidu Ka Khopcha’

The court granted that no unlicensed AI Chat can use his persona to interact with the users. And thus safeguard his personality and his image in the digital format.


The legal trend over the years has expanded rapidly which many actors and film personalities are seeking to secure their image in public and have obtained protection being public figures.
