Every year, leading
Iconic Film Stars from the eighties catch up for an evening to celebrate their decades-long
friendship and comradeship. After a break due to
the pandemic, this group reunited in Mumbai on Saturday evening to continue
their annual fun-filled tradition. About 25 leading film
personalities from the South flew to Mumbai for the th edition of this
Chiranjeevi, Sarathkumar, Bhagyaraj, Suhasini Maniratnam, Khushboo, and Ramya Krishnan were among those present.
Flashback to the 80s: Stars Reunite After Decades Iconic Film Stars
Held at a venue decked
oThe reunion was held at a venue decorated in Maharashtrian style, serving local delicacies. Actors from the South performed a medley and participated in fun games and quizzes organized by Poonam Dhillon. One segment involved stars dancing to songs featuring their names on cards. Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Seshadri even reunited on stage for a song from the 1983 film Hero.
Actors from the Hindi
film fraternity, including Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Raj Babbar, Tina Ambani
and Madhoo participated.
This year’s reunion followed a color theme. The ladies wore silver and orange, while the men wore grey and orange. Earlier editions of this
reunion have also seen Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in
attendance.
Suhasini Maniratnam introduced the reunion concept with Lissy in 2009. She said, “There’s a lot to celebrate now, with films doing well and audiences returning to theaters.” It’s time to revive
and celebrate the power of cinema.”

edition’s festivities, she added, “For all the stars present, it was

The hosts presented wacky awards: Saritha won “The Long Distance Traveller” Award, Lissy took “Hindi Pandit”, Bhagyaraj and Poornima were crowned cutest couple, and Sarathkumar and Sumalatha were named best singers.
The group last met in 2019 for their 10th reunion at Chiranjeevi’s Hyderabad residence. About 40 stars attended the gala event.
They hope to carry
this tradition forward in the coming years as well.

celebrating our friendship. We exchange information and ideas about projects in our film industries. Poonam Dhillon mentioned she’s interested in doing a Tamil film soon. I thanked Padmini Kohlapure for helping my career take off – she was initially chosen for the 1980 Tamil film Nenjathai Killathey, which I eventually debuted in.
